But here's a critical truth: how you eat isn't just about food - it's about supporting your body to absorb the nutrients you need for energy and your own wellbeing.


As a human a strong survival area is food, yet when we are balancing work, home, caring for someone and considering finances we can lose sight of the benefits of dedicated meal times. 


The Hidden Cost of Stressed Eating:


It is too easy to fall into a dangerous pattern of eating on the run. Meals become something consumed standing up, between tasks, often while managing multiple responsibilities. When supporting someone else, food can become an afterthought - something quickly grabbed to keep going, rather than a moment of nourishment. It can become all to familiar that our senses struggle to remember what we just ate.


The price we pay for this can be:


-Reduced digestive enzyme production and decreased nutrient absorption

-Increased cortisol levels as body's survival mode recognises it is lacking in nutrients

-Compromised digestive health issues

-Dehydration

-Compromised energy levels


The Positives of Making Time to Eat


- Your digestive system will thank you as it calms, knowing you are giving it the space to process nutrients properly. It can scream very loud if you try to ignore its need for proper digestion often by making you feel stress from inner alert that a need is not being met.

- It models self care for those you support and allows you several spaces in the day where you can stop and focus on your needs - if even for 10 minutes


Making This Happen


- Create a small, peaceful eating space 

- Set a timer to sit and eat without distraction

- Practice 3-5 deep breaths before your meal

- Use a proper plate and sitting rather than standing over the sink

- Notice how different you feel when you give yourself permission to eat mindfully


Sometimes we just need to take a birds eye view to see how our own basic needs are being compromised before we can put things into action to improve them.
